Share the Knowledge

By Dr. Bruce Eichelberger

It has been said that we don't truly know something until we teach it. I know that for me this has always been true. Whenever I teach a class I always learn at least as much as anyone attending, and my understanding of the material always deepens.

When it comes to your Leadership Awakening training, you gathered many tools and concepts during those 2 ½ days. Most of you take that experience and apply it directly into your life, your work and your relationships.

But what if there was more you could do? (Remember, "There's always more.")

One truly excellent way to further activate your Empower U experience is to think about how you would share the concepts you've learned with someone else. Your actions are ultimately what gives others permission to embrace these principles, but your ability to put your understanding into words will go a long way towards helping you to discover the deeper meaning of the concepts.

A good place to start thinking about how you could present these ideas is to read Scott V. Black's book, "Becoming Your Dreams." This book outlines the behind-the-scenes ideas and principles that guide the Awakening experience. With this understanding, you'll add your own unique perspective and come up with your own individual way of talking about the process of living your life like it matters.

Another excellent way to deepen your experience is to come on staff at one of the upcoming Leadership Awakening classes. You get to see an in-depth view of the process from the 'other side' of the table. (It also gives you a great recharge!).

If you want to know more, you could also consider becoming a Trainer in Training. This includes getting to learn how to actually present some of the powerful processes in Awakening. Nothing could teach you more and help you embody these principles at a higher level.

Action Steps for Today

Sharing the impact of your Empower U experience with people you respect gives you a lot back in return.

First of all, you'll find that it rekindles that spark of passion that may have died down a bit since your graduation.

In addition, you're sharing a powerful experience from you life with someone you care about, which creates a deeper bond.

And finally, they may just be curious enough to take the next step and go to class. This helps you because we all do better when we are surrounded by empowered people.

Making a Difference - Bryan Parsons, Team 409

I have some interesting job stories from experiences that I've had over the last couple of months that I'd like to share with you.

I got called out to a house because the woman wanted to speak to a deputy about being robbed in Reno. When I arrived and was talking to her, she was a wreck! After convincing her that she was safe in Dayton because more than likely, the suspects would not follow her to Dayton, and then performing a security check on her home, I advised her that she may want to look into some form of self help to get her past this trauma. Her reply was "I want to." Without even thinking, I immediately asked her if she wanted to or she was going to? Obviously she looked at me rather funny, so I went for it and told her that anybody can say they want to do something or they will t_y to do something, but in the end, it didn't mean anything unless they actually do it. Now I was on a roll, I then explained that wanting to shows no commitment and that she owed it to herself and her husband to commit 100% to doing whatever she had to do to be the person she was before the tragedy. Her last words were "Deputy Parsons, I WILL get through this."

Next, I was called to speak to an 18 year old girl who had called the crisis hotline. After ascertaining that she was not suicidal, we began to talk. She told me that she is failing school and partying too much, but that her dream is to be in law enforcement. She opened the door for me. "How are you going to make this dream happen?" When she looked at me with a blank look, I explained the concept of Want It, Create It, and Live It. I told her that if she wanted to make that dream happen, she had to go to the next step, that she had already decided what she wanted, but if she didn't create it, she would be stuck as a want-to-be. So how was she going to create it? Her first answer was quit goofing off in school so she could get her diploma. She then answered that she had just started a job, and she would perform there to prove responsibility. She also said she would slow down on the partying. She checks in with me every now and then to update me how things are going. I believe she may just pull everything together!

Finally, I was called to deal with a woman who was majorly depressed and I had to commit her as suicidal. She called me after she was released from the hospital and thanked me for doing what I did and talking to her that night and that she was going to T_Y to get better. I told her not to T_Y, but to do it because if she only T___S she is not committed to getting better, she is only saying that she'll see what happens. At the end of the conversation, she said she would get better, not just try.

If I don't get a chance to tell you all in person, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Word Play

"Perspective" means the capacity to view things in their true relations or relative importance. Leaders with vision have the ability to see the bigger picture, which gives them a larger, more encompassing viewpoint.

You can see the word used in today's article in the sentence, "With this understanding, you'll add your own unique perspective and come up with your own individual way of talking about the process of living your life like it matters."

Live Life to the Max!!! by Maria Julia Bernadette dela Cruz

You know when I was in Salt Lake City we had a training about on the job injuries and fatalities. The instructor gave us many scenarios on how "death" could come in a flash, without even thinking about it. One was a woman who was a secretary in a dental office, between her desk and the lobby there was an electrical cord that she managed to pass every single day, well, one day she tripped on it and hit her head on the corner of the desk then on to the marbled floor, she died.

Another one was a man who was working in a fabricating company, he's a welder. They make slot machines, he was putting up the slot machines on the rack for the final finish. They sort of look like hangers and the slots were circulated. They could carry up to 1,000 lbs. In an instant the slot machine came off the hanger and hit him on the head, then another, he died.

Chuck, our trainer went on by saying, live your life as if you'll die at any given time, not even tomorrow, but at any given moment, you may die. What an eye opener to everybody, it especially made a big impact on me.

When we're on our break I called my dad, who's coming home soon thank God, but I called him just to let him know how much I love him. Then I called my brother in the navy, then my mom, my sister, my younger brother, my best friend and my staff.

That story made me think, how do I want people to remember me when I die? What things do I need to do before I die? What places have I not seen? People I have yet to meet... I have a mission which is to do the things I need to do before I die. And you know when your mindset is this way, you're doing the things you want to do and need to do as if you'll die at any given moment, YOU ARE LIVING!

I want to live life! I don't want to die! But there's a difference between just existing and truly living!

With passion,
HBS MJB
