A Warm Glow in Iowa
By Scott V. Black
I just returned from the great state of Iowa. We conducted our first
Leadership Awakening in Iowa, Des Moines to be exact. Team 500 was an incredible
group of 16 people. It started as 17 individuals and morphed into a team of 16
committed, powerful leaders. Mark Parriott with Maytag was on staff and his wife
Tammy, who is a graduate of Awakening and Adventure, was in the audience at
graduation. I returned on Sunday and on Monday I was CC’d on an email she sent
to her Leadership Adventure team. I want to share that email with you:
Team,
I had the privilege of attending an Awakening graduation in Iowa yesterday. It
was truly an inspiration to me, this was a group of 16 graduates and the passion
in the room was overwhelming. I want to share some of the highlights and I hope
that they will inspire you as they did me.
- A young man (in his 20’s) gave an inspiring speech and then stood up and
hugged his father for the first time in his life. It really touched me, they
weren’t bad people just people who didn’t share emotions. The impact that this
will have for his family is amazing!!! For our team the message is: “Don’t leave
anybody out there who needs a hug without a hug, especially someone you love.”
(I will be going to school and hugging some of my ‘hard to hug’ kids tomorrow)

Achieve More By Holding Yourself
Even More Accountable |
|
You can take your own accountability
to live your dreams up a notch by sharing your goals
with others. To help you do this we'd like you to send us a copy of your mission
statement. We'd also like your permission to include
it in this newsletter.
Why?
For 2 reasons:
-
It helps you be more accountable
when you share your mission statement with
others.
-
It inspires others to re-visit
their mission statement more regularly.
In other words, it's a win-win
situation for everyone. So step over the line to help yourself and help all of
your fellow graduates by sending in your mission
statement.

Making A Difference - Karryn
Wilson, Team 490 |
EmpowerU Team,
As I committed to do something for someone else within 30
days of my awakening graduation, I am pleased to be writing
an update.
I had an idea what I wanted to do even before I left
awakening. I have always wanted to feed the homeless or
provide some sort of service in that area. I went to a
mandatory orientation May 5 with a non profit organization
here in Sacramento called Loaves & Fishes.
They had several different programs available to choose
from. What stood out to me was a program called Sister
Nora’s Place which is an emergency overnight shelter
designed to provide a safe and hospitable environment for
severely traumatized homeless women. Case by case, the goal
is to transition these homeless women into more stable and
permanent housing.
What I will be doing is cooking and serving the dinner
meal for the 13 women in the shelter. Unfortunately I won’t
be able to do this in the time frame of 30 days but wanted
to give an update of my intentions. I will write again about
my actual experience after I do it. Thanks for challenging
me and for keeping me accountable.
